2nd Annual Solar Industry Seminar
SEI workshop
Solar Industry Seminar is fast approaching and registration is filling up quickly. The event is taking place March 25-29 at the Fort Collins, Colorado Marriott. This year we are featuring a training session on the 2008 NEC as it applies to solar electric systems, with instructor Bill Brooks. Registration for this NEC Training only is $300.

Whether you are an experienced installer wanting to learn more about the latest products on the market or new to the industry, don't miss our Solar Industry Seminar. There will be vendor booths, product displays and three-days of technical trainings. In addition, SEI will offer introductory training sessions on PV, Solar Thermal, and Sustainable Home Design for novices to the industry.

Prior to the seminar join our partners CoSEIA for a two day conference and annual meeting, March 25-26. The Conference begins with a full day of training workshops followed by their Annual Members’ Meeting and full-day Conference.

Biodiesel film wins award at Sundance!
Past SEI instructor and best-selling author Josh Tickell's feature-length documentary film, Fields of Fuel, about ending the world's oil addiction - one gas tank at a time, is taking home the 2008 Audience Award for Best Documentary Film from the Sundance Film Festival.

Known as the "Veggie Van" guy, Tickell captured the public's attention 10 years ago when he drove his sunflower-painted Winnebago around the United States on biodiesel he made from recycled fast food cooking oil. Fields of Fuel takes viewers on an alternative power trip through Louisiana's polluted bayous, Detroit's misguided corporations and Washington's corruption. The film reveals that the true price we pay for a barrel of oil is ultimately our freedom. Unlike other documentaries in this genre, Fields of Fuel is not only about problems; it's also about solutions.

Fields of Fuel was produced by SEI alum Greg Reitman of Blue Water Entertainment (who also produced SEI's promotional DVD) and Dale Rosenbloom of Open Pictures.

The Great Lakes May Soon be Home to Offshore Wind
SEI workshop
The waters of the Great Lakes, near the shores of Canada, may soon be home to offshore wind power. The Province of Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources has lifted a deferral on applications to produce offshore wind power in the province's waters. There are currently 14 projects that have been proposed in Ontario.

One such project has been put forward by Trillium Power Wind Corporation. This project is sited in the northeast corner of Lake Ontario where winds average approximately 24 kilometers/hour, and the company believes that it will be perfectly suited to take advantage of Ontario's wind resources.
